Listen to Obituary

Wayne A. Wiedenbein passed away peacefully at his home in Fort Thomas, KY on November 6, 2025 at age 87. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Linda, and his daughter Amy (David) Golden. He also leaves behind two treasured grandsons, Oliver and Charlie. In addition, he is survived by his sister Carol Walling; nieces Julie, Nancy and Kelly; nephews Ged and David, and their families.

Faith, family, and friends were Wayne’s bedrock throughout his long, well-lived life. His loving provision and care for Linda and Amy never wavered. He was the kind of dad every little girl dreams of.

Additionally, he and Linda welcomed countless people into their home and into their lives; undergirding their generous hospitality was God’s grace, plentiful for all who came and went through their front door. Whether it was a family dinner, a casual friends’ gathering, or coffee, their welcoming spirit always prevailed and many good memories were made in Dayton, Hillsboro, Florence, and in Fort Thomas.

With friends and family, Wayne was an intrepid euchre player; he was known to call trump or even go it alone with just enough to scrape by and usually nailed it (much to his and his partner’s delight)! Wayne also loved the outdoors, both birdwatching and fishing. He was content in his boat, casting just one more time to see if a crappie or bass might hit his line. Through the years, like any good fisherman, his fish stories grew bigger and longer with each retelling. In his later years when he couldn’t get outdoors as much, he enjoyed sketching nature and architecture.

His early years were spent in the country, as his family had relocated to the family farm in Otway, Ohio where he was born. Having left Dayton, Ohio to weather the Great Depression outside of the city, Art and Carrie Wiedenbein and their little daughter Carol welcomed Wayne on March 25, 1938. Eventually they moved back to Dayton, and Wayne’s school years were spent on the west side of Dayton. Attending Ohio University, he met Linda Elliott; once they got married in 1961, their grand adventure began. As a newlywed, he served in the US Army in France during the Berlin Crisis. Linda traveled to France to join him. Their life in rural France and European ramblings made for many memories and often-shared stories for years to come. Those road trips in Europe were the start of decades of hitting the road for parts unknown or known together. “On the Road Again” could have been their theme song if they needed one, as they loved road-tripping near and far.

Once back in the States in 1963, civilian life meant working at NCR in Dayton, where he worked production management for 35 years.

Wherever Wayne lived, he was active in church and sang in the choir, including Fairmont Presbyterian and Fairhaven Church in Dayton, Hillsboro Church of Christ, and First Church in Burlington. For the past 12 years, he was a member at Highland United Methodist in Fort Thomas, KY. His gentle manner, sweet smile, and steady presence will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held at Highland United Methodist Church at 314 N. Fort Thomas Ave, Fort Thomas KY 41075 on Saturday, November 15. Visitation from 12:30-2 pm with the service starting at 2 pm. Handicap accessible entrance on the lower level, east side of the building. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to Highland United Methodist Church or St. Elizabeth Hospice.
