Thomas Ralph Harmon

February 25, 1951 — April 22, 2025

Newport, Kentucky

"A man who built more than homes — he built a legacy."

Thomas (Tom) Ralph Harmon, age 74, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family and friends. Born February 25, 1951, in Newport, Kentucky to Beulah Navarre and Oscar Harmon, Tom lived a beautiful, full life defined by love, hard work, and an unwavering dedication to those around him.

Tom spent many years in Locust, North Carolina, but returned to Newport in 1989 to be near his first grandson and the family he so deeply adored. He attended Newport High School through 1967 before entering the workforce, where he made his mark through his hands and his heart.

He worked for Boemer Paint Company, S&S Trucking, and eventually established himself as a highly respected contractor-known for transforming houses into works of art. With an expert's eye and weathered hands, Tom passed his knowledge to his sons, who now teach their own children the trade he loved.

Tom was known for his fierce work ethic, creative problem-solving, and mechanical brilliance. Recognized with numerous commendations for his ingenuity, he was truly an engineer at heart. His love for classic cars was legendary—he owned hundreds throughout his life-and he enjoyed the thrill of swap meets, the sounds of classic rock, and the comfort of Pasquale's pizza and banana pudding.

People gravitated to Tom. He was charismatic, compassionate, and always ready with a story that left you laughing. Friends and strangers alike quickly realized he was someone special. His nurse, who knew him only briefly, said she would never forget him-and that sentiment echoes through his family and the City of Newport.

Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Beulah and Oscar Harmon; his grandmother, Katie Hopman-Harris; his beloved son, Jason Wagner; his friend, Pierce Shouse; his cousin, Bobby Harris; and many other loved ones.

  • He is survived by his children, Mary Jackson (Tim), Thomas Harmon, Troy Harmon (Danielle), Anthony Harmon (Shannon), Jessica Fowler (Hank) and Joseph Wagner.

He also leaves behind 20 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and countless extended family and dear friends—many of whom proudly claimed the title of "Tom's Favorite." To his children, Tom was a rock, a counselor, and a moral compass. His honesty, wisdom, and humor guided them through life. He gave 110% to everything and instilled in his family the values of resilience, integrity, and unconditional love.

"Because of you, Dad, we have the hearts of lions, the strength of our family, and an unshakable work ethic. We are better people because of you."

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Tom will be cremated, and his ashes will remain with family before being spread in places that held deep meaning to him.
