Listen to Obituary

Ruthelia (nee Williams) Hughes was born September 24, 1935, in Camden, Alabama. She was the youngest of 7 children born and raised to Cora Anna Marie Fry and William Williams.

During the years of 1935 and 1939, the family moved to Cincinnati, Ohio under the care and guidance of their mother Cora, and their eldest brother, Paul Peavie. Tragically, their mother Cora passed by 1940, and Ruth was left without her mother at the tender age of 5 years old.

As a young girl Ruth attended Harriet Beecher Stowe Elementary School in Cincinnati, OH. Although there were always challenges, Ruth always found joy in life. She especially found pleasure in spending time with her friends and enjoyed going out dancing and roller skating!

In 1952, Ruth was blessed with her first son, Finzie, and shortly thereafter - she was blessed with her second son - Tony. She eventually met Charles Hughes, and their union was blessed with 4 daughters and an additional son.

Ruthelia had not only drew interest in, but became passionate about learning the truth of living her life as a Jehovah's witness. She decided to formalize her dedication as a Jehovah's Witness by baptism on July 2, 1970; Ruth was a dedicated servant of Jehovah.

She was faithful in her field service ministry, kind in dealing with all whom she met, and took every opportunity available to share her truth of Jehovah with whomever would listen.

Ruth had an incredible zest for life. She loved shopping, enjoying good food, walking and was a very stylish dresser. She was also a great bargain shopper and was excellent at finding great deals! Ruth never met a stranger and left a loving impression on everyone she encountered.

She passed away peacefully, at the age of 90 years old, on August 10, 2026. She was preceded in death by all her siblings - Paul Peavie, Mary (Williams) Wright, Leroy Williams, William Williams, Rose Williams, Emma (Williams) Gaither, and one son - Charlsie Hughes.

She leaves to cherish her memory and is survived by her children; Finzie Williams, Tony Williams, Renee Glover, Jvelyn Davis, Jeanette Hughes, Lisa (Tom) Richardson; 17 grandchildren, as well as great-grandchildren and many other loved ones. She will be forever cherished by her niece Nikkie Reed, and during her illness, Jehovah allowed special relationship to develop with her nieces Shirley Wright and Carol Gaither. All honor and praise belongs to Jehovah for this life well lived and forever cherished.
