Ruth Ellen Richardson

Ruth Ellen Richardson, of Elsmere, Kentucky, passed away on September 5, 2026, at the age of 75. She was born on December 30, 1950, in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Ruth lived a life shaped by compassion, dedication, and a deep love for animals. In 1975, she graduated from barber school as one of just 11 women in her class, marking the beginning of a career defined by determination and independence. She went on to open her own barber shop in Broad Ripple, Indiana, building a path that reflected both her skill and her confidence.

Her professional life later turned toward the care of animals, a calling that suited her caring nature. In 1980, she attended Melody Manor School of Dog Grooming in Newport, Kentucky. During her time at Melody Manor, she also served as an instructor, sharing her knowledge with others and helping guide those learning the trade. In 1991, Ruth moved to Especially Dogs in Tower Plaza in Ft. Wright, where she remained until her retirement in 2018. Over the years, she became known not only for her work, but for the compassion she brought to it each day.

Ruth will be remembered with love by those closest to her. She is survived by her roommate, Alicia Herbert, her sister, Joyce Kelly and numerous nieces and nephews. Their lives were enriched by Ruth’s steady presence, her kind heart, and the warmth she brought to everyday moments.

She was preceded in death by her father, Edward Paul Richardson; her mother, Delores Richardson Holt; and her sister, Mary Katherine Lee.
