Ronald D. Gilbert, aged 88, of Florence, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2026. Born on April 18, 1938, in Elsmere, Kentucky, he was the cherished son of Charles Gilbert and Rena Moses (nee Gillespie).
Ronald was preceded in death by his father, Charles Gilbert, mother, Rena Moses, and brother, Charles Gilbert, Jr. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 47 years, Peggy P. Gilbert (nee Penick); his children, Ronald H. (Lauren) Gilbert, Rodney (Darlene) Gilbert, and Linda Gilbert; his grandchildren, Tyler, Amanda, Joshua Gilbert, and Ari Schmitt; four great-grandchildren; his brother, Donald Gilbert; sister, Ina Keairns; and a loving extended family and many friends.
A man of diverse talents and interests, Ronald was a passionate pilot who delighted in flying his wife to scenic lunch destinations. His community service included roles as a Chief of Life Squad and Fireman in Union Township, Ohio, as well as serving as an Army Medic. He was a respected elder at his church and Sunday School teacher, Chairman of the Zoning Board, and an active member of the Gideons. Professionally, he applied his engineering skills for 30 years at Cincinnati Bell, where he contributed to the development of the telephone network across the Tri-State area. Ronald also generously volunteered his time at Big Bone Lick, inspiring young minds with the wonders of the museum.
In loving memory of Ronald, contributions may be made to Centro Cristiano Bethel Church, Erlanger, KY, or the Gideon Foundation.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2026, with a visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Newcomer Cremation, Funeral, Receptions, 4350 Dixie Highway, Erlanger, Kentucky 41018, with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 3227 Dixie Highway, Erlanger, KY 41018.
