Robert Arthur Hay, known to many as Rob, passed away unexpectedly on September 23, 2026, in Beckley, West Virginia. He was born on June 5, 1964, in Ashland, Kentucky. His passing leaves a deep sorrow in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Rob was a man who was always smiling, and that warm spirit made him loved by everyone. He built a life marked by hard work, loyalty, and a genuine love for people. He served on the Garrison Fire Department, a role that reflected his willingness to help others and be part of something larger than himself. He also drove a big rig, work he took pride in and truly loved. Whether on the road or among family and friends, Rob made lasting connections everywhere he went.

Outside of work, Rob found joy in the things he loved most. He loved to hunt, ride motorcycles, and driving his big rig. He was also a member of the Sons of the American Legion. These interests were part of the life he embraced fully, and they gave shape to many of the memories shared by those closest to him.

At the center of Rob’s life was his family. He is survived by his wife, Rhonda Fields-Hay. He is also survived by his mother, Okradda (Edward Czuprunkski) Shaffer and his step-mother, Brenda Hays. Rob’s love continues through his daughters and their families: Lindsay (Chris) Snodgrass, Ashley (Jarrod) Wells, Melissa (Anthony) Cappadona and Amy (Brent) Hosier.

He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Kaden Hays, Callie Snodgrass, Maddox Wells, Tyler (Tamara) Lovell, Tristan (Tessa) Lovell, Reese Lovell, Veronica (Logan) Settles, Isabelle (David) Hartley and Sydney Hosier; and great-grandchildren: Dustin Lovell, Hayden Settles, Soren Cody and Ellie Settles.

Rob is further survived by his uncle, Charles (Anne) Lamm; his brother, Darren Hays; his sisters, Jessica (Jerry) McClanahan, Melissa (Michael) Longmire and Robin (Michael) Barela; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins who he loved dearly; and by Crystal and Rick Yockey, who were part of his extended family. The love he shared with those around him created a wide circle of friendship and family that will continue to remember him with affection.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Hays; his step-father, Oral Shaffer; his grandparents, Robert and Eula Lamm and Arthur and Goldie Hay; and his granddaughter, Adaline Wells.

Service information will be updated here as soon as it is available.

Robert Arthur Hay will be remembered for his smile, his hardworking nature, his love of family, and the kindness he shared so freely with others. His memory will remain a blessing to all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be missed by everyone, but especially his family.
