Robert "Bob" William Long

January 26, 1935 — April 25, 2025

Edgewood, Kentucky

Robert William Long passed away peacefully at his home in Edgewood, Kentucky, on Friday, April 25, 2025. Robert was born in Higbee, Missouri, on January 26, 1935.

Bob spent his formative years in Higbee and was raised by his adoring mother, Mary Jane Chism, grandmother, Martha (Purdy) Chism, and his aunts and uncles. Bob was a graduate of Higbee High School where he played basketball and met the mother of his children and first wife, Bonnie (Sumpter) Long.

Bob owned an auction house in Hannibal, Missouri, before joining Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in 1963, where he held several positions in multiple states before retiring after 30 years of service, with his devoted and loving wife, Gladys Marie (Woods) Long, in Edgewood. Bob and Gladys enjoyed many years in retirement between their homes in Kentucky and Florida with friends and family. Bob learned to paint, watched all the sports, and resumed his favorite pastime of finding a good deal at rummage sales, flea markets, and of course, auction houses.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys, and children, Belinda Gayle Long and Mark William Long. He is survived by his grandchildren, Angela Marie Long and Leland William Long, his stepdaughters, Theresa Bradley, Vanessa Riddle, and Linda Woodyard, and their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, who will all miss his steady and stoic presence.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place at Williamstown Cemetery.
