Myrna Whitener Diamond, age 89, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 1, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, kindness, and compassion for others. Born on May 19, 1937, Myrna lived a life defined by hard work, determination, faith, and an unwavering devotion to her family. As a single mother raising six sons, she faced life's challenges with remarkable strength and perseverance. She worked tirelessly to provide for her children, instilling in them the values of independence, resilience, and the importance of caring for others.
Myrna spent 45 years working at Jerry Ulm Dodge in Tampa, Florida, where her dedication and strong work ethic were evident throughout her career. Even after retirement, she wasn't quite ready to stop working. She spent several more years as a cashier at Publix Supermarket, where her warm personality, friendly smile, and genuine interest in people made her a beloved presence among her customers. She had a special way of making others feel welcome and appreciated, often turning everyday encounters into meaningful connections. Outside of work, Myrna enjoyed many kinds of arts and crafts. She loved creating things with her hands, and her creativity was one of the many ways she found joy in life.
Faith was an important part of Myrna's life. At the time of her passing, she was a member of Florence Christian Church, where she found fellowship, purpose, and opportunities to serve others. Myrna had an especially tender heart for animals. Throughout her life, she welcomed many pets into her home and cared deeply about their well-being. Her compassion extended beyond her own pets to helping others care for the animals they loved. Through her church's outreach ministry, Christians for Critters, she devoted herself to helping individuals and families who needed assistance providing for their pets. This ministry was particularly close to her heart and reflected her belief that kindness and compassion should extend to all of God's creatures.
Myrna was preceded in death by her beloved sons, Steven Diamond, Karl Diamond, and Timothy Diamond. She is survived by her sons, Frank Diamond, Ron Diamond, and James Diamond; daughters-in law, Susan Diamond and Gladys Diamond; her brother, Bill Whitener, and sister-in-law, Suzie Whitener; along with several grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who will cherish her memory.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the caring staff of Magnolia Springs Assisted Living for the kindness, compassion, and loving care they provided Myrna during the final three years of her life. Special thanks are also extended to St. Elizabeth Hospice for their gentle guidance, comfort, and exceptional support during her final days.
In keeping with her generous spirit and her desire to continue helping others, Myrna chose to donate her body to the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine for medical education and research. Her final gift reflects the same selflessness and concern for others that characterized her life. Arrangements have been entrusted to Newcomer Funeral Home and Cremation Services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Florence Christian Church, 300 Main Street, Florence KY, to support its ongoing mission in our community.
Myrna requested rather than a funeral, a party be thrown in her honor. That date (TBD) will be after the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday season is over.
Myrna will be remembered for her strength, her faith, her generous heart, and her love for family, dear friends, and animals. Her life was a testament to perseverance, compassion, and the simple but lasting power of kindness (and a feisty sense of humor!). Her work here is done, but the love she gave and the lives she touched will remain forever.
