Jimmy Wayne Phillips, known to many as Jim, passed away on August 21, 2026, in Florence, Kentucky, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on July 9, 1950, in Flemming, Kentucky, Jim’s life was deeply rooted in the mountains of southern Kentucky, where he was brought up as part of a large, close-knit family.

Jim was the son of Leonard and Ora Bell Phillips (nee Polly), both of whom preceded him in death, along with his brothers George, Glendale, and Leonard Jr., and his sisters Linda O'Bryan, Lois Phillips, Vera Phillips, and Clara Washnock. He is survived by his beloved wife Dee Phillips (nee Stoudt), his unwavering partner and soulmate for 37 years. Together, Jim and Dee raised two beautiful daughters, Brandi (Travis) Eilers and Summer (Matt) Lovins, who were a constant source of pride and joy in his life.

The legacy Jim leaves is most evident in the family he so dearly cherished. Jim’s pride in his daughters extended effortlessly to his grandchildren: Spencer, Carter, and Cayley Eilers, and Sierra, Morgan, Austin, and Addison Lovins, each of whom brought light into his world. He was also blessed with his great-grandson, Titus Kochert. Jim’s brother Allen (the late Anita) Phillips survives him as well.

Throughout his life, Jim was an embodiment of hard work and humility. As a maintenance man, he demonstrated an industrious spirit, always taking immense pride in a job done right. His handy nature was renowned—he could fix or make nearly anything, bringing determination and skill to every task. Colleagues and friends admired his unwavering work ethic and his knack for finding solutions where others saw obstacles.

Jim’s service to his country was another distinguished chapter of his life. He spent four years in the Air Force, traveling to new places and building a foundation of discipline and dedication. His commitment did not end there; after his time in the Air Force, he continued to serve with the Army National Guard, further demonstrating his sense of responsibility and patriotism.

But beyond all of Jim’s accomplishments—career, service, talents—what set him apart was the depth of his character. He was known for his kindness, generosity, and love—for his ability to find joy in the simple pleasures of life. Friends and family lovingly remember his great sense of humor, his gentle frugality, and his appreciation for long drives, music, time outdoors, and crafting things by hand. Jim lit up every room with his presence, always ready with a smile, a joke or a word of encouragement.

Among all the things he achieved and valued, his family always remained at the heart of his world. Dee, his wife and best friend, stood by his side through all of life’s seasons, and together they built a home filled with love, laughter, and resilience.

In Jim’s final days, he and his family were cared for by the extraordinary hospice team at Bluegrass Care Navigators, and the compassion and kindness of Clint, an RN at St. Elizabeth Florence will forever be remembered with deep gratitude.

Jim Phillips touched the lives of many, not only with the things he built or fixed but most importantly through the love and values he instilled in his family. His legacy of love, hard work, and simple joys will live on in the hearts and memories of all who had the privilege to know him.
