Jeannine Smith (née Nitsche), born on February 27, 1936, in Cincinnati, Ohio, peacefully passed away on June 15, 2026, in her beloved hometown. Surrounded by her loving family in her final moments, she left behind a legacy rich with love, creativity, and devotion.
Jeannine was a gifted quiltmaker whose hands crafted warmth and comfort not only in fabric but also in the hearts of those she taught. Many of her grandchildren carry forward her artistry, weaving threads of family tradition into each stitch. With an inventive spirit, she often transformed bed sheets into matching curtains, ensuring each grandchild’s room was a harmonious haven. Her passion did not stop there; she enjoyed embroidery and found joy in the simple pleasures of life, including the daily intrigue of soap operas, especially General Hospital. Above all, Jeannine was a wonderful cook who loved sharing meals with her family, creating moments of connection and celebration around the table.
Her proudest accomplishments were deeply rooted in her family, a beautiful, growing circle that brought her immense joy through decades. She is survived by her daughters Debbie Farnsley (the late Harry) and Barbara Hollingsworth (the late James), as well as her sons Otis Dick (Debbie), and Danie Smith (Beverly). The family tree further flourished with grandchildren — Tammie Leisgang (Patrick Sandusky), Jeffrey Dick (Sugar), Scott Farnsley (Christina), Tiffany Rauen (Brian), Rebecca Dick, Lacie Farnsley (Jason), and Steven Smith (Elizabeth) — and extended branches of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Among these precious ones are Chance (Danielle), Codie (Dylan), Ava (David), Brian, Brooklyn (Jarius), Daila, Dalilah (Allen), Douglas, Declan, Isabella, Zoey, Emily, Honey, Lily, Johnny, Brittany, Patrick, Arey, Bronx, Serenity, Victoria, Scarlett, Evie, Mia, and many more. Jeannine's love also embraced great-nephews Troy (Brittany), Paul, Joe, and their descendants, along with great-great-nieces and nephews such as Olivia, Cheyene, Claire, DeJay, Jeremy, and others who continue to honor her memory.
Jeannine was preceded in death by her mother, Henrietta Nitsche (née Myers), her father, Clarence Nitsche, her husband Danie Smith, Sr., her cherished grandchild Danie Smith, III, her sister Alberta Tittle, and her niece Tina. Their memories remain forever engraved in the family's collective heart.
A graveside service will be held on June 20, 2026, at 12:30PM at Saint Joseph Cemetery and Mausoleum, located at 3819 W 8th St, Cincinnati, Ohio, 45205. Family, friends, and all who knew Jeannine are invited to celebrate her life and the enduring love she shared so generously.
Jeannine Smith’s life was a tapestry of kindness, ingenuity, and familial devotion. She leaves behind a heritage stitched with care and affection that will continue to warm the lives of those she held dear for generations to come. Her spirit, like the quilts she made, will forever enfold those who loved her in a comforting embrace.
