James E. Smith, a devoted family man and skilled mechanic, passed away on June 3, 2025, in Union, Kentucky, surrounded by his loving family. Born on August 13, 1953, in Covington, Kentucky, James dedicated over 40 years of his life to the automotive industry, working tirelessly as a mechanic at Chevrolet dealerships. His craftsmanship and commitment to excellence earned him the respect of colleagues and customers alike.
James was not only known for his exceptional work ethic but also for his warm personality. He was a proud grandfather who always ensured that his family was taken care of, and he approached life with an unyielding smile that brightened the days of everyone around him. His caring nature extended beyond family; he cherished the time spent with friends, whether it was hunting, fishing, or enjoying houseboating adventures with coworkers.
The heart of James' life was his beloved wife, Jacqueline Smith (nee Roe), with whom he shared 51 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a beautiful life, rich with love and support, which became James' proudest accomplishment. His legacy extends through his children, including his son Jesse Smith (Tammy), and his cherished grandchildren: Dakota, Bryson, and Logan Smith, along with his great-granddaughter, Adalyn Smith.
James is also survived by his brothers, Don Smith and David Smith, and his sisters, Anita (Ken) Klawitter, Brenda (Robert) Tolson, and Judy Tolson, as well as a host of other family members and friends who will remember him fondly.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Smith, his mother, Dolorose Smith (nee Rauen), and his sister, Geraldine Couch.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
As we gather to honor the memory of James E. Smith, we celebrate a man whose life was a testament to love, hard work, and unwavering kindness. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
