James L. Cowan

Cowan, James L., age 68, of Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, September 13, 2025. He was born on March 5, 1957, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Carl and Juanita Cowan (nee Dailey).

James is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Juanita Cowan. He is survived by his devoted wife of 37 years, Doddie Cowan (nee Barkley); his children, John Howe, Shonda (James) Dunn, James (Tonya) Cowan Jr., Shawn (Shellie) Hodge, and Melissa McCollum; and his cherished grandchildren, including Lacey (Kendric) Howe, Andrew Dunn, Bradley Dunn, Katelynn Dunn, Brayden Dunn, Sophia Cowan, Shawn Michael Hodge, Sheldon Hodge, Shane Hodge, Shalynne Espich, Jordin McCollum, Marrie McCollum, and Liamm McCollum. He also leaves behind great-grandchildren Kaleb Ferguson, KJ McCloud, Karlie Dunn, and Aubrey Dunn, as well as his brothers Bob, Cliff (Verna), Gary (Faye) Cowan, sister Della (Bruce) Gundrum, and many other family members and friends.

James had a passion for fishing and enjoyed the joy of camping and gathering around campfires. He took pleasure in playing pool, attending Turkey shoots, and supporting his beloved Cincinnati Bengals. His love for his work was evident, and he cherished the time spent with his children and grandchildren and great grandchildren. Country music held a special place in his heart, accompanied by a good beer.

Friends and family are invited to a visitation at Newcomer Cremations Funerals Receptions, located at 3300 Parkcrest Lane, Cincinnati, Ohio 45211, on Friday, September 19, 2025, from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM, with a funeral service beginning at 12:00 PM. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery.
