Elly Lori Rising

Elly Rising (nee Mezger) aged 86, of Cold Spring, Kentucky, passed away on May 16, 2025.

Elly was born on December 29, 1938, in Stuttgart Germany, to Wilhem Mezger and Frieda Offtermat, alongside her two sisters, Lori and Marga. She came of age during World War II - a childhood shaped by displacement, scarcity, and the enduring weight of trauma.

As a young woman, Elly immigrated to the United States building a new life - first in Newport, Kentucky and later in Cold Spring, Kentucky, where she lived out her life with her second and beloved husband Robert "Bob" Rising.

A determined and resilient woman, Elly raised her four children - Diane Chapman, Mike Schlake, Tanya Stephany and Richard Mezger - largely on her own.

She supported her family by working as a nurse's aide and various other service roles, embodying strength, perseverance and quiet dignity. She worked hard, endured quietly, and remained steady through everything life put in her path. Her presence will be especially missed during the holidays she loved so dearly,

Elly is survived by her husband, Bob, her four children - Diane Chapman, Mike Schlake, Tanya Stephany and Richard Mezger, eight grandchildren, Rachel Ferris, Joshua, Eric and Chad Schlake, Colten and Brycen Stephany, Ana and Lucas Mezger, and five great-grandchildren.

There will be no services held at this time.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to War Child, an organization supporting children affected by conflict.
