Darryl L. Hitch, age 71, of Covington, Kentucky, peacefully passed away on Monday, July 28, 2025. Born on February 16, 1954, in Covington, he was the cherished son of Irene Louise Purcel Hitch (nee Clore).
He is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Irene Louise Purcel Hitch, as well as his brother, Roger L. Purcel; nephews, Roger V. Purcel and Joseph Purcel; niece, Amy Purcel; brother-in-law, Mike Reynolds; and sisters-in-law, Janet and Brenda Purcel.
Darryl is survived by his brothers Gary (Sandy) Purcel and Randy (Emily) Hitch; sister Sandy Reynolds and a host of nieces and nephews: Lori Purcel, Lisa (Mike) Wawrzniak, Shellie (Rob) Stanley, Cori (Ed) Arens, Lauren (Alex) Berger, Tara (Joe) Brady, Christa Weiskittel, Jerry (Lori) Purcel, and Greg (Roberta) Purcel, as well as many other family members and friends.
Darryl graduated from Northern Kentucky University with a degree in Biology. He worked at UPS as a driver for 30 years retiring in 2010. He was also known for his exceptional talent in basketball, continuing to play well into his 50s. His love for travel took him to stunning destinations including Australia and various U.S. National Parks, notably the Grand Canyon. Additionally, he cherished time spent with friends at Lake Cumberland.
