Cynthia "Cindy" E. Sweeney, aged 75, of Burlington, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 8, 2025. She was born on July 27, 1950, in Warren, Minnesota, to Ralph Donald and Lois Janette Downey (nee Larson).
Cynthia was preceded in death by her loving parents, Ralph and Lois Downey, and sister in law, Michelle Lund, step son Derek Sweeney and nephew J.J. Moen, niece, Ashley Sweeney. She is survived by her devoted husband, Paul Sweeney, along with her cherished children: son Donald William (Laura) Sweeney and daughter Erin Elizabeth Sweeney. She is also survived by her step-sons Preston John Sweeney and Garrett Michael Sweeney, as well as her sister Melody Jane (Gary) Gray and brother Bradley Kevin (Sabrina) Downey.
Cynthia's family extends to her many beloved nieces and nephews, including Leilani Gray, Gary Gray Jr., Kelli Snyder, Nicolas Gray, Ryan Gray, Traci Reilich, Nathan Downey, Megan Nies, Scott Downey, Brittany Downey, and Jessica Downey. She is also remembered by her sister-in-law Sheila Slominski, brothers-in-law Robert Sweeney and Michael (Tamara) Sweeney, and their children Sara Sweeney, Wesley Sweeney, Steven Slominski, Heidi Wavra, Naomi Sweeney, Jill Hurst, Amy Groves, along with 25 great nieces and nephews.
Cynthia had a passion for travel and cherished the moments spent with her family and friends. She enjoyed shopping adventures with her sister and indulging in her favorite movies and meals at Mexican restaurants. Her pets, Gracie Lou Sweeney, Willow Mae Sweeney, and grandpups Moana Lei Sweeney, Sabine and Mac Sweeney, were also a significant part of her life.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the following organizations: Wounded Warrior Project, Women's Crisis Center in Hebron, KY, Tunnels to Towers, or ASPCA.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, with a visitation from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Northern Kentucky Chapel, located at 4350 Dixie Highway, Erlanger, Kentucky 41018.
