Col. Robert D. Raines passed away on October 15, 2025 in Hospice, Edgewood KY. Born August 8, 1947 in Wooster, OH to Duane and Virginia (Glass) Raines. A graduate of Northwestern High School, University of Mount Union (BA) and University of Toledo (MBA).

He retired from The United States Marine Corps with 8 years active duty and 14 years reserve, He retired with the rank of Colonel. While serving he was member of the 1976 Marine Corps Shooting Team and was the 1000-yard inter-service champion team member. His civil career was managerial positions with Whirlpool, Bose, and Honda of American Corporations. He also was an adjunct professor at Bluffton University in Ohio in business and leadership management.

Athletics - 1965 All-Ohio selection as a pitcher with a career record of 40 wins and 3 losses: quarterback football: member of the 1965 Northwestern High School State Championship basketball team. He was a 4-year letterman in baseball at University of Mount Union and was captain his senior year, He also was the activities director at Fairmont Children's Home, Alliance, OH.

In retirement, he volunteered his time with the South Carolina Low Country Heroes on Horseback Therapeutic Equine program for special needs individuals where he was responsible for the training of horses and their handlers. He was instrumental in expanding the therapeutic equine program to include Veterans and First Responders.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia A. Raines of Independence, KY., stepchildren, Amy Brown, Lori Brown, Andy Brown, and Lindsay (Eric) Saalfeld and 8 step-grandchildren, Brady, Emma, Grant, Maci Saalfeld; Gabriella Ertl; Evelyn, Emerson, and Elise Brown all Northern KY area. Sister Pam (Ray) Ginther of Wooster OH, and many nieces and nephews from Wooster, Orville, and Huron OH. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Chaneta "Shawn" (Sonnie) Daugherty, brother Randal Raines, niec Meredith Ginther and nephews Greg Ginther and Michael Raines.

Services will be held on Friday,  October 24, 2025 at Schlabach Funeral Home 212 Jones St., Shreve, OH. Visiting hours are from 10:00-11:45 with service to follow. The interment will be at the Newkirk Cemetery, Shreve, with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial contributions be made to The National Kidney Foundation or any veteran's program-charity of your choice in Bob's memory or to the New Pittsburgh Fire Department, New Pittsburgh, OH (in memory of Greg Ginther).
