Charles H. Hazelwood, age 79, of Burlington, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 6, 2025. He was born on September 3, 1946, in Knoxville, Tennessee, to Howard H. Hazelwood and Alma L. Hazelwood (née Rose).
Charles was deeply proud of his service in the United States Marine Corps. He enlisted in 1964 at the age of 17 and served honorably for four years, including combat duty in the Vietnam War. His time in the Marines was a defining part of his life, and he carried that pride with him always.
A man of many passions, Charles had a lifelong love for cars and firearms and found joy in spending time shooting in the country. Yet, nothing brought him more happiness than his grandchildren, who were truly the light of his life.
Charles was known for his larger-than-life personality—bold and unforgettable. His presence left a lasting impression on everyone he met, and he was deeply loved by many. His legacy lives on in the stories we share and the memories we hold close.
He is preceded in death by his father, Howard H. Hazelwood; mother, Alma L. Simonetta; brother, Steve Hazelwood; stepdaughter, Gaynelle LeGrande; former wife, Mary Hazelwood; and many beloved family members and friends.
Charles is survived by his loving wife, Carol A. Hazelwood (née Doll); daughters, Lisa G. (Jason) Pflugh and Tina D. Hazelwood; grandchildren, Zachary Johnson, Patrick Pflugh, Caleigh Claypole, Liam Pflugh, and Samantha Pflugh; stepson, Vaughn LeGrande; stepdaughter, Danielle (Steve) Palla; sisters, Sharon (Glenn) Hemperley, Dawn (Al) Morales, and Melody; along with a host of extended family and cherished friends.
In keeping with Charles’s wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. The family invites those who knew and loved him to remember him in their own special way.
In honor of Charles’s life and service, memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
