Charles Ray Bush, born on August 13, 1940, in Huntington, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2025, in Edgewood, Kentucky, surrounded by his beloved family. A devoted husband, step-father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, Charles touched the lives of many through his warmth and passion for life.
Charles was a machine operator and served as a union representative, advocating for the rights and welfare of workers throughout his career. He spent 30 plus years doing taxes and prided himself in being better than H&R Block. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he proudly served in the Army, embodying a strong sense of duty and commitment to his country.
An ardent enthusiast of U.S. history and politics, Charles was known for robust conversations that challenged and inspired those around him. His interests extended into gardening, where he particularly loved tending to his roses. Additionally, he found joy in fishing, golfing, and was recognized as an accomplished bowler, relishing the camaraderie these activities brought.
He is survived by his daughter, Lori (Thomas) McEntee; sons, Michael Berning, Robert (Emily) Berning, Thomas Priestle, and Steve Priestle; grandchildren, Jessica, April, Brandon, Morgan, Cooper, Ariane, Sydney, Bryan and Zach; as well as numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia (Doug) Anderson, and a host of other family members and friends who cherished him deeply.
Charles was preceded in death by his father, Ned Mobley; mother, Elizabeth Bush (nee Nichols); brothers, Gary Bush and Raymond Bush; sister, Elizabeth Matteoli; and his loving wife and friend, Dolores Hand.
A memorial gathering will be held on November 6, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 6:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, Northern Kentucky, located at 4350 Dixie Hwy, Erlanger, KY 41018.
Charles Ray Bush leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and a passion for living life fully. He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
