Listen to Obituary

Mrs. Brenda “Kay” Reedy, age 78, of Fort Thomas, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on August 27th, after a short but challenging battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Born August 17, 1947, in Washington, D.C., she was the cherished daughter of Percy Abner Grant and Mary Grant.

Kay committed nearly three decades of her career to Northern Kentucky University, serving in Student Activities and Housing after relocating to northern Kentucky in the early 1980s. Her genuine care for students was evident; she embraced them as her own, profoundly touching countless lives through her kindness and dedication. Kay’s legacy at NKU is defined by compassion, tireless support, and her unwavering devotion to those pursuing their education.

Family was Kay’s greatest joy, and she was a devoted mother, sister, grandmother, and aunt. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Kyle Reedy Jr., and her parents. Kay is lovingly remembered by her daughter Heather Reedy Stuempel (Paul), her son Adam Kyle Reedy (Abbi), and her brother Gary Grant (Maureen). She took immense pride in her grandchildren: Ryan and Jordan Stuempel, and Aiden, Arin, Austin, and Ava Reedy. Kay also treasured her nephew Alex Grant, her niece Megan Wright, and Megan’s daughters, Vivian and Lillian Wright.

In retirement, Kay found happiness in simple pleasures—reading novels to escape into new worlds, watching Westerns to remind her of simpler times, and above all, cherishing time with her grandchildren. She delighted in cheering them on at events, sharing stories at meals, or simply being present for everyday moments. Holidays and special occasions held a special place in her heart, and she always found joy in giving thoughtful gifts that brightened the lives of family and friends. She was also a big sports fan and always loved watching the Reds and Bengals.

Honoring Kay’s wishes, only a private service for immediate family will be held. The family sincerely requests your prayers during this difficult time. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in tribute to Kay’s life. Kay wanted her friends and family to remember how she lived and not mourn her passing. Her memory will continue to inspire kindness, reflecting the generosity, devotion, and steadfast love she shared throughout her life.

Donations in memory of Kay are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association
