Birddie was a woman who wore her heart on her sleeve and spoke her truth with unwavering honesty. While she could be blunt, it always came from a place of love, and those who knew her best understood just how deeply she cared. She found joy in the little things, such as her favorite color purple, the beauty of carnations, and the everyday moments spent with the people she loved most.......her family.
She married her husband Melvin "Pete" Stockton Sr April 29,1978
She spent many years working at Sunoco, where she became more than just a familiar face, she became someone her customers looked forward to seeing, They loved her because she loved everyone who came through that door. She later retired from UDF in 2012, leaving behind friendships and memories that stayed with her long after.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Melvin Bruce Stockton Sr.; her parents, Gladys and Joe Bill Bishop; her sisters, Linda "Mae" Hensley (Bishop) and Marie Charles; her niece, Dawn Sue Bishop; her uncle, Phil "Junior" Lakes; her brothers-in-law, Billy, JB, and Dickie Stockton, Denver Hensley, and Bob Sizemore; along with many dear friends and loved ones.
Birddie is survived by her children, Latosha (Robert) Lamb, Melvin (Geneva) Stockton Jr., and James "Mike" Dufresne, who will carry her love with them always. She was a proud and loving grandmother to KateLynn Stockton, Melvin Stockton III, Juan Stockton, Gabriela "Gabby" Stockton, and Hazel and Li-Li Stockton, who were her babies, couldn't tell her otherwise.
She is also survived by her siblings, Catherine "Kitty" Hensley, Joann (Jeff) Martini, Joe (Heather) Bishop, and Linda Sizemore; her mother-in-law, Laura Mae Harris; her sisters, Betty Johnson and Tina Williams; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will forever hold her in their hearts.
