Alexander B. Metcalf, Sr., a dedicated and loving patriarch known for his tireless work ethic and unwavering support for his family, passed away on May 15, 2026, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Born on April 8, 1957, in Cincinnati, Alexander’s life was a testament to perseverance, love, and the joy found in simple pleasures.
Throughout his life, Alexander was renowned for his hardworking nature, often balancing two jobs to provide for those he cherished. Despite his demanding schedule, he remained a deeply loving and supportive presence within his family, always placing their well-being and happiness above all else. Among his proudest accomplishments was his family, particularly his grandchildren, whom he adored and nurtured with great affection.
Alexander’s passions extended beyond his work and family. He delighted in music and dancing, often letting the rhythms of life infuse moments with joy. He had a keen fondness for sweets, never turning down a ginormous slice of chocolate cake, an indulgence that brought simple happiness to his days. Alexander also had a profound love for animals and enjoyed immersing himself in movies, especially westerns, which stirred his imagination and provided leisure and relaxation.
Born and raised in Cincinnati, Alexander’s roots remained firmly planted in the community he called home. His journey through life was marked not only by his personal achievements but also by the deep connections he fostered with those around him.
He is survived by his devoted son, Alexander B. (Jamie) Metcalf, Jr., and his cherished daughters: Samantha (Asif Ismail) Bates and Jean Renae (the late Donald) McCulloch. Alexander’s spirit lives on in his beloved grandchildren, Kyle, Tyler, Austin, Tori, Zach, Josh, and Haley, as well as in nine great-grandchildren who carry forward his legacy. His brothers, Rex (Tracy) Skinner and Randy (the late Carol) Skinner, his pets, Treasure, Ira, Shelly and Thrasher, along with a host of other family members and friends, also mourn his passing and celebrate his life.
Alexander was preceded in death by his loving mother, Emma Jean Skinner (nee Woody), and father, Frank Metcalf, his wife, Debbie Metcalf (nee Hale), his grandchild Hannah, two great-grandchildren, and brothers Frank Metcalf and Morgan Metcalf. Their memories remain a treasured part of the foundation on which Alexander built his life.
A visitation will be held on May 29, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM followed by a service at Newcomer Funeral Home, West Side, located at 3300 Parkcrest Ln, Cincinnati, OH 45211.
