It was after a sunshine-filled and family-filled day of tea parties, candy treats, joy rides, cheesecake slices with both lemon and raspberry sauces, and card games with her grandchildren, that Maureen Ann Feldman Reis passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones on Sunday, February 26, 2023.

Maureen was born on February 1, 1948, to the late Irvin George Feldman and the late Eileen Fidelis Donovan Feldman in Dayton, Ohio. With her beautiful, blonde curls bouncing up and down, she enjoyed climbing trees, playing volleyball and basketball, and teaching math lessons to her siblings and cousins in the basement.

This childhood passion for educating others led her to her professional calling of teaching mathematics and history – a job into which she fully invested herself passionately for 48 years. She earned her Associate’s degree from Northern Kentucky University, her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Cincinnati, and her Master’s degree from Xavier University. She was an expert with mathematics and even more of an expert in helping others understand mathematics. She had endless patience and tutored thousands of high school math students if they struggled with their courses. She celebrated in their successes and formed lifelong friendships with many of her students.

In year 7 of her teaching career, she met and married the true love of her life, Mark William Reis, of Cincinnati, Ohio, in August, 1975. The two were true soulmates and companions. Together they enjoyed directing summer camps, boating, playing backgammon and cards, attending Reds baseball games, working out at the Powel Crosley YMCA, and vacationing on the beach.

The greatest adventure and joy they shared was the raising of their only child, Katie Reis Bonomo. Maureen provided Katie endless stability and love. She put the needs of her daughter above her own and always volunteered to help Katie’s swim teams, soccer programs, and music performances run smoothly. If there was work to be done, Maureen was the first to roll up her sleeves and jump in. Maureen supported Katie academically and emotionally. She was always her biggest advocate and cheerleader.

Maureen invested time and energy into getting to know all of Katie’s closest friends. She treated them as second daughters, and though she only gave birth to one child, she loved and cared for many others. She truly lived by the philosophy of “be kinder than is necessary” and encouraged others to do the same.

Not only did Maureen form meaningful relationships with Katie’s friends, she also formed beautiful friendships with her teaching colleagues, her Powel Crosley YMCA workout buddies, and her neighbors. She loved joining her friends for brunch, fancy dinners out, a trip to the bakery for cupcakes, or just a simple “Diet Coke date”. She gave much of herself to her friendships and was always quick to offer a helping hand or a caring hug.

Maureen loved to talk on the phone and touch base with her beloved sister, Eileen, a minimum of three times a day! They talked about everything and nothing. They were true best friends and confided in one another with trust and love. Maureen also enjoyed very close relationships with her brothers, Patrick and Thomas, their wives, and her many cousins. They frequently gathered together for pizzas and card games. Maureen was always eager to join in fun family gatherings.

On top of being a loving spouse, devoted mother, loyal friend, and caring sibling, Maureen always found time for exercise. She walked six miles a day around the hills of her hometown, Wyoming. She joined the Powel Crosley YMCA and spent countless hours on the treadmills, elliptical machines, and rowers. She was committed to her health and served as a supportive presence to others in the workout room.

Maureen had over a decade to enjoy her most precious role in life – beloved “Bubbi” to her two grandchildren, Ryan and Molly Bonomo. She visited with them at least once a month. She swam with them in the pool, read them stories and silly poems, taught them to read and play card games, visited the bakeries to pick out special sweet treats, took them on long beach walks in Sanibel Island to find the most fabulous of shells, and enthusiastically cheered them on at their sports competitions. She was immensely proud of both Ryan and Molly and treated them with the utmost kindness, care, and patience.

Maureen is survived by her devoted husband, Mark William Reis, her favorite daughter, Katherine Christine Bonomo (nee Reis), her beloved son-in-law, Michael David Bonomo, her treasured grandchildren Ryan Mark Bonomo and Molly Quinn Bonomo, her loving brothers Patrick Joseph Feldman (Madeline) and Thomas Michael Feldman (Marilyn), her dearest sister Eileen Sue Eicher (nee Feldman) (Ray), her cherished nieces, Kellie Elston (nee Eicher) (Clifton), Nicole Swan (nee Anik), her caring nephews James Reis (Natalie), Edward Eicher, Timothy Eicher, Andrew Feldman (Anne), and Patrick Feldman, her sweet great nieces Gabrielle Elston, Zoey Eicher, Mae Feldman, Vera Feldman, her delightful great nephews Ethan Eicher, Quinton Elston, Brayden Eicher, Jackson Elston, Thomas Feldman, Henry Feldman, James Feldman, and Charles Feldman, and numerous cousins.

A celebration of Maureen’s life will be held on Thursday, March 30th at the Manor House at 11:00 a.m. The address for the Manor House is 7440 Mason Montgomery Rd, Mason, OH 45040.
