Velma Louis Crowder Spencer, born March 16,1950 in Atlanta, Georgia, the third child to Robert and Vivian Crowder. She grew up in the West End and graduated from Taft High School in 1968 and in 1969, married the love of her life, Robert Eugene Spencer, and their union lasted for 43 years. Robert passed away in 2012.

Velma was employed at the Cincinnati Public Schools for over 30 years, where she retired. A very private person, Velma loved her family and was faithful to God, family and friends. She was a dedicated worker and volunteered for the Ronald McDonald House, Tender Mercies, Hillcrest Home for Youth, YWCA, and Troop Leader for the Greater Cincinnati Girl Scouts in the West End.

Velma was a member at Greater Emanuel Apostolic Temple, was baptized in Jesus's name over 30 years ago, and she received the Holy Spirit on Valentine’s Day. Velma served the church in countless ways. Her roles included: Administrative Support for the Media Department, Food Service, the Women’s Choir, managing the Candy Store, and assisting the Sunday School until her health failed.
