Matthew H. Douglass, Sr., age 58, of Finneytown, Ohio passed away on Friday, January 3, 2020.
He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on October 22, 1961 to Jack and Peg Douglass (nee Conway).
Matt was a loving and hardworking family man who touched many lives. He loved his wife and kids very much and lived a life full of compassion for others. He told his kids’ every day how important it was to “be nice to everyone” and to “remember you’re number one”.
Matt worked at Meijer in Colerain as a meat cutter for the past 10 years. He had a passion for food and loved sports, especially the Cincinnati Reds, and he enjoyed music and collecting antiques.
Matt lived a life full of positive memories including activities such as trips to the beach, playing softball, fishing, camping, and gardening. He was a religious man who lived a very modest and humble life. He enjoyed all the simple things in life and always had a positive outlook. Matt was consistently able to make people smile and was a very proud father.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John C. Douglass; niece, Lilliana Schalck; father-in-law, Charles Gertz; mother-in-law, Annetta Gertz; brothers-in-law, Steve R. Brown and Charles Gertz.
Matt is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Holly Douglass (nee Gertz); daughter, Nadine Douglass; son, Matthew H. "Hawkins" Douglass, Jr.; sisters, Laura Brown and Mollie (Nancy Emmrich) Douglass; nieces and nephews, Caitlin Butler Brown, Matthew Brown, Christopher Brown, John Riley Douglass, Bradley Douglass, Kyle (Christina) Douglass, Jill (Jake) Hayes, Shae Douglass, Eric Gertz, Brian (Natalie) Gertz, Kevin Gertz, Roger Gertz, Jr., Nicole (Gilberto Ruiz) Gertz, Tiffany Schalck, Jason Combs, and Jamie Combs; great nieces and nephews, Levi Brown, Milo Knighten, Harper Douglass, Dean Hayes, and Scarlett Gertz; brothers and sisters-in-law, Karen Douglass, Steve (Jill) Gertz, Geoff (Misaki) Gertz, Roger (Norma) Gertz, Sr., Kelly (Sonny) Combs, Kristy Gertz Schalck; and a host of other family members and friends.
A Funeral Mass will be held for Matt on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 12:00PM at St. Vivian Church, 7600 Winton Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45224. Family and friends may gather at the church prior to the service, beginning at 11:00AM.
