George David Smith was born on January 1, 1954 to the parents of David Cottingham Smith and Louise Smith-Robinson (nee Watkins), at Cincinnati General Hospital. He was the eldest of three sons, and the second child born to them.

As a youngster, he attended Cincinnati Public Schools and the 1st Baptist Church of Walnut Hills and later The Church of God under Pastor Louis Lovelace.


He grew up in Avondale, nicknamed "Jimmy Jones," but he also lived in Detroit, Michigan as a youngster with his cousins the Cottingham family.

When he returned to Cincinnati in the 70's he got a job at the General Hospital and worked over 15 years at Beechwood Nursing Home as an orderly and nurse’s aide.

After leaving Beechwood, he worked a number of different jobs. He often worked 2 jobs in one day, a full time and part time. He was not afraid of hard work.

After he moved from Avondale, he moved to Evanston where he lived for over 30 years. He also did odd-jobs for the businesses in the neighborhood. He had a great love for animals, especially dogs. He could be seen walking his dog, Bear in Evanston and just about everybody knew George. He has a personality that you could not forget.

After months in a comma with countless hours of rehabilitation, he was later able to live on his own with the help of nurses and home help aides. “God is good” he gave us more time with George.
He would ride his scooter around the neighborhood going to the stores in the Hyde Park Plaza.

Preceding him in passing his father, David Cottingham Smith; his mother, Louise Robinson; sisters, Geneva Hardy and Diane Smith Doty; and brother, Donell Smith.
He leaves to mourn his passing and cherish the memories, one son, Deiondrae Lamont (Levron) Norris; one grandson, Deiondrae Williams; two sisters, Julia (Judy) Smith and Margie Smith; one brother, Cornelius Jay Smith Sr.; one aunt, Elizabeth Bell all of Cincinnati, Ohio; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

“George loved his family,” and he was loved by many.
The family wishes to thank all the doctors, nurses, home help aides, and social workers that assisted George in his time of need.

Visitation will take place on Friday, June 21, 2019 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Celebration of life will follow at 12:00 pm with burial at Vine Street Hill Cemetery.
