Dr. Alan D. Wolfelt is a noted author, educator, and grief counselor. Recipient
of the Association for Death Education and counseling’s Death Educator Award, he
serves as the Director of the Center for Loss and Life Transition in Fort Collins,
Colorado. In addition, he is also a faculty member of the University of Colorado
Medical School’s Department of Family Medicine.
We are honored to bring Dr. Wolfelt to our community to speak to you and your family

knowledge and skills related to caring for bereaved persons. Dr. Alan Wolfelt will
explore a variety of important sub-topics surrounding grief care and emphasize the
importance of “companioning” not “treating” the mourner. Dr. Wolfelt will also introduce
his concept of “living in the shadow of the ghosts” that notes that if people do
not authentically mourn life losses it becomes impossible to live well and love
